As we approach the 2025 Legislative Session, the fight for intellectual freedom in North Dakota is more critical than ever. At Right to Read ND, our top priority is protecting the freedom to read—a fundamental right that ensures access to diverse ideas and information in our libraries and schools.

In the upcoming session, we expect to see bills that aim to limit access to books based on their content, particularly in areas related to race, gender identity, and family diversity. These efforts not only infringe upon our constitutional rights but also prevent students from engaging with the broader world through reading. School libraries are vital spaces where young people can explore new ideas and learn from different perspectives, and any legislation that limits their ability to do so is a step backward for intellectual freedom in North Dakota.

Right to Read ND is committed to opposing these harmful proposals. We will work with legislators and community members to ensure that no North Dakotan is denied the right to access books and ideas, regardless of their content.
