At Right to Read ND, we believe that decisions about what children should read belong in the hands of parents and educators—not the government.

In the 2025 Legislative Session, we will work to empower parents and educators to make informed choices for their children without government interference.

Teachers and librarians are trained professionals who curate educational materials that are age-appropriate and inclusive for students. These experts understand the developmental needs of children and work hard to provide a range of materials that support learning and personal growth. At the same time, we believe that parents have the right to guide their own children’s reading choices, while allowing other families to make their own decisions.

Government overreach into classrooms and libraries undermines the expertise of educators and erodes parents’ rights to make decisions for their children. Right to Read ND will stand firm against legislation that limits the professional discretion of teachers and librarians and will advocate for parents’ right to decide what is best for their children.
