The Right to Read ND campaign stands in strong opposition to Measure 4, a ballot initiative that would eliminate property taxes based on assessed value. This dangerous measure, set to appear on the November 5, 2024, ballot, threatens the future of libraries across North Dakota by cutting off essential funding that local governments depend on to support public services, including our schools and libraries.
Our libraries are centers of learning, literacy, and opportunity for every North Dakotan. Measure 4 puts the funding for these vital institutions at risk, with no clear plan to replace the $1.3 billion in lost revenue. This would lead to cuts that devastate programs, limit resources, and shrink access to the services our communities rely on, from children's storytimes to senior programming.
Right to Read ND is proud to stand alongside the Keep it Local Coalition and North Dakota Library Association in urging voters to reject Measure 4. We believe in local control and protecting the funding that sustains our libraries and public services. A vote 'No' on Measure 4 is a vote to protect the right to read, ensuring that our libraries remain strong, well-funded, and open to all.
Join us in safeguarding North Dakota’s libraries and communities by voting 'No' on Measure 4 this November. Together, we can ensure a brighter, stronger future for all.
