Why Inclusive Collections Matter for North Dakota's Libraries
At Right to Read ND, we believe that inclusive collections in libraries and schools are essential for fostering understanding and empathy in our communities. In the 2025 Legislative Session, we will advocate for policies that ensure that North Dakota’s library collections reflect the rich diversity of our state.
Unfortunately, there are legislative efforts underway that could limit the kinds of books and materials available in public spaces, particularly those that address gender identity, racial experiences, and family diversity. Such efforts harm students and community members by denying them access to information that could help them understand their own identities or broaden their perspectives on the world.
Libraries and schools should serve as inclusive spaces where everyone, regardless of their background, can find books and materials that reflect their experiences. By supporting inclusive collections, we ensure that our libraries remain welcoming and educational for all.
What can you do?
Help us advocate for inclusive library collections by staying informed and pledging to take action during the legislative session.
